What to Bring on the Grand Canyon
The following information is a list of all clothing, equipment and optional items to pack for your Grand Canyon Rafting Trip. If you have questions about any of the following information, feel free to visit the Frequently Asked Questions page or call our office at 1-800-637-RAFT.
Clothing:
- Swimsuits
- Nylon shorts
- T-shirts
- Long sleeve cotton shirt (for sun protection)
- Long cotton pants (if you sunburn easily)
- Sun hat or visor with tie-on
- Sunglasses with strap
- Two-piece rainsuit
- Athletic/jogging shoes or lightweight hiking boots w/socks
- Sarong (for evaporative cooling, changing clothes, etc.)
- Flip flops, Tevas, or strapped sandals
Paddlers
- Aqua socks or wetsuit booties
- Gloves
April, early May, and September add:
- Polypropylene or thermal underwear (top & bottom)
- Sweatpants or fleece pants
- Sweatshirt, wool shirt, or fleece top

Equipment:
- Sunblock, lip balm w/sunscreen
- Moisturizing hand lotion
- Small towel
- Toothbrush & toothpaste
- Shaving equipment, small mirror
- Kleenex, eye drops
- Soap & shampoo
- Prescription medicine
- Two one-quart water bottles w/tight fitting caps (no pull tops)
- Fanny pack for small items you need during the day (also good for hikes)
- Small flashlight such as Techna or Mini Mag-Lite or a headband mounted light such as Petzl
- Extra batteries
- Small camp pillow
- Lightweight nylon daypack for the Bright Angel Trail
All passengers will be limited to about 12-15 lbs. of duffel

Optional:
- Camera (insurance recommended), extra memory cards (or film), batteries, and waterproof container.
- Wetsuit booties or aqua socks (particularly if you're prone to be cold)
- Backpack style hydration system
- Spirits in unbreakable containers, dry mixes
- Ziplock bags for film, valuables, etc.
- Notebook & pen
- Solar shower
- Needle & thread
- Musical Instruments, fishing equipment (check with the office for guidelines)
What Outdoors Unlimited provides:
- Waterproof bags (one for personal gear, the other for sleeping gear)
- Sleeping gear includes: sleeping bag, cloth liner, vinyl-covered foam pad, waterproof 5x7 tarp
- Eating utensils, mug and plate
- Two person tents are available if needed
- Waterproof river guidebook
- Hiking poles for the Bright Angel Trail
- Bags for storage of boots and backpacks
